subjects or british protected
persons of Chinese race should be
firmly resisted.

Advani age was taken of the
presence of Sir Cecil Clementi in
this country to discuss with him
the question of the appointment of a
Chinese Consul at Kuala Lumpur.
It was agreed at this discussion
that it was impossible now to
withdraw the permission to appoint
a consul or to impose special
conditions in advance; but that it
would be necessary to watch the new
consul's activities closely, when
appointed, and make strong protests
or demand his withdrawal should ho
ever exceed his jurisdiction.
It
was further agreed that His Majesty's
Linister should be requested to
